Aamir Khan was signed on to essay the lead role and the antagonist, while Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra will reprise their roles as police officers. Rimi Sen, who played the role of sweety,
wife of ACP Dixit, was offered to play the role again, which she declined because of her decision to not do any "guest appearances" Katrina Kaif was signed on as the lead heroine, starring opposite Khan. Dhoom 3 will be directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya,
replacing Sanjay Gadhvi who directed the two previous films and declined to return to direct the third. Both the lead actors took up special preparations for the roles that they are playing. Two more villainous roles were decided by Director and were to play by Ranveer Singh and Jacqueline Fernandez but the Producer later refused and denied this.
Khan reportedly learnt ballet, aerobatics and French technique of parkour,a method of movement focused on moving around obstacles with speed and efficiency, while Kaif took paragliding training and singing lessons. Bachchan reportedly lost nine kilos of weight to prepare for his role in the film.
3D Format:
Reportedly Aditya Chopra, the producer of the film, wanted to make the film in 3d format, feeling that the success of Haunted, showed that Indian audiences have opened up to 3D cinema viewing , however actor Aamir Khan was not convinced as he thinks 'making a 3D film needs more expertise'. Some sources still maintain that the film will release in 3D.
